Income

Income is fairly self explanatory - it's any money that's coming into the society. Most of the semantics of this are handled by the Guild and the website, but there's a few points that may be useful listed below.

It's also worth remembering that any sales through the guild website incur a “booking fee” as below:

Memberships

Memberships must be purchased through the website and must never be sold or paid for in cash. Memberships incur VAT and so although our membership fee is £5 (as of 13/05/2026) - we only actually receive £4.17 of that, as the rest is lost to HMRC.

Hoodies / Merch

Generally for merch it's recommended to use the guild website, but this isn't required and in these cases sales can be made in cash and then paid into the guild. I (Matty) would typically recommend to use the website, purely because it makes collection of data easier and you know exactly who has purchased what, rather than having to rely on a committee member taking cash and writing things down. Merch sales will also incur VAT whether made by the website or in cash.
