+===== Roles and Permissions =====
+The most important roles we have are Guest and Member. The Guest role is the one that actually has permissions and is given to users upon being inducted. This is the role that allows users to see the channels and be able to send messages. The Member role is purely cosmetic, but has a minor difference in permissions, as it gives users access to the "colours" channel which is where they can select a different name colour.

+Before users are given access to the server they must introduce themselves. Generally we require they give a name and course as a minimum, but how strict you want to be with this is up to the committee of the day. Once a satisfactory introduction has been sent in the introductions channel, the user should be inducted via [[applications:tex-bot:start|TeX]].

+  * Right click the username ->  Apps -> TeX -> Induct User
+  * Right click the message -> Apps -> TeX -> Induct Message Author
+  * Manually use the `/induct` command, and provide the username of the user you want to induct

The year and pronoun roles are purely decorative, while the opt in channels are below. The roles channel also contains the starboard opt in and out. By default everyone is opted in but they can use this toggle to opt out. If they do this, their messages cannot be placed on the starboard and their stars do not count toward the required count for a message to be placed on the starboard. The starboard is managed by Dyno and the opt ins and the toggles are managed by Zira.

+[[https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/4421269296535-AutoMod-FAQ|AutoMod]] is a service provided by Discord to help with automated moderation actions, though it is only capable of blocking messages, timing out users, and sending alerts to committee. Those alerts are currently configured to go to the Discord channel.
+The rules that we currently have configured are:
+  * Profile Name Exterminator 90001 - prevents users from setting their nicknames and tags to something obscene (the list is stored in the rule if you want to check, remove or add to it) or, in the instance of tags, if the user does set it to something that's blocked, that user will be quarantined. This means they will not be able to send message or interact on the server until they change their tag or username.
+  * Block Mention Spam - if a message is sent with too many pings to users, it sends an alert. Doesn't get triggered much really but can be handy to catch things that would otherwise slip past the other rules.
+  * Block Spam Content - this one flags committee announcements more than it does genuine spam, but again can be helpful to catch messages that would otherwise go undetected.
+  * Commonly Flagged Words - same as above, sends an alert when specific words are used, doesn't come up often.

+  * Ping Everyone Detector 9001 - blocks the text "@everyone" and "@here", sends an alert and times the user out for 1 hour. Very useful and catches the majority of common scam messages as they usually try to ping everyone and immediately get yeeted by this rule. Probably the most helpful on the list.
+  * Scam Blocker 4 Electric Boogalor - blocks a range of different text and phrases used in scam messages, though this one is configured to ignore anyone that's been inducted, so is specifically designed to target scams in #introductions. Again very good and catches a lot of stuff.

+Discord has a built-in message forwarding function, but it lacks a lot of features that help with moderation action, so TeX has it's own "Send Message to Committee" command. This can be accessed by right clicking a message you want to report -> Apps -> TeX -> Send Message to Committee. This will then send the message and a few other details to the Discord channel.
